After nearly a week of -30C (-40C with wind chill!) weather, my poor Jetta did not make it through the night and could not start this morning. I made it through last winter without using the block heater, but it appears I will have to start plugging it in if I want to get anywhere (alternatively, I could walk and subject any exposed skin to fast-acting frostbite).
To all of you in warmer climates, I would suggest that you stay there; I am on my way.
Posted by warcode at January 14, 2003 12:57 PMdude comes to his senses. i'm just glad all it took was a frozen car,
and not half your limbs falling off due to getting that "fast-acting
frostbite" while walking home from a bar, drunk and without pants.
Oh right, I forgot to post that story from the weekend.
Posted by: warcode on January 14, 2003 08:00 PMwhat story? "area man freezes frankensac off in desperate attempt to get home?"
My Jetta starts quite fine, but I have to make sure the choke is on though. Somtimes I forget to turn it off, and I wonder if that's bad while I'm driving. I guess it just uses a little more gas...
Posted by: bricode on January 14, 2003 09:42 PMWell, yours is diesel and in Portland, so I can't help you much there. Did you get those speakers working?
Posted by: warcode on January 15, 2003 12:39 AMI put in 3 quarts of oil (thing only holds like 4 quarts...). Speakers work for the most part, but cut out occasionally. Rear defrost doesn't work. Broke the temp adjustment for the A/C. It's a bit of a POS, but it runs.
