file under: coolest thing ever

upon opening up one of the random servers we have kicking around the office, i noticed that the raid controller (an adaptec asr-2100s) has a row of leds along the top edge that flash back and forth (ala kitt). given that the card is used in a colo-bound server with a standard-issue opaque case, this is totally useless... but still totally awesome.

Those things are indeed awesome. I only ever saw them when the servers needed fixing, so I think their only purpose is to cheer you up when everything else is going to shit.

Kind of like the guys who sent us colo boxes where they'd replaced the power light with an elite blue LED.

FACT: blue leds make machines faster.

I'm replacing all my leds with red lens low power ones for the super saturated oldschool tip. it's hot.
