food

So for the last 3 days I´ve been in Gijòn staying with the family of my friend Olaya.

I´ve tried lots of interesting foods.

The first of which is the cidre. There aren´t any bubbles, so they pour it from above their heads, and you must drink it all right away. It gets a little fun when people keep pouring you glasses without asking. When you walk into the restaurant, everyone getse a drink. They have sawdust on the floor because everyone drinks from the same glass, so you have to empty your glass on the floor before returning it.

Dinner consisted of some meats, and some cheeses, and some fish pate things.

Cheeses included one described in my Let´s Go as

"The Arenas de Cabrales has become famous for the unbridled moldy funkiness of its blue cheese. To produce the cheese, locals ardously empty cow, goat and ewe udders into large tin bins. After allowing the mix to mature, cheese makers drain the extra liquid, and a pinch of cow aferbirth and a twist of lamb fetus, store the mush inside the cabbage leaves and let them stew in mountain caves in humid darkness for half a year"

It was okay.

I prefered the meat, the jamòn is very good here. Tortillas are spanish omelettes and I´ve eaten one almost every day. I´ll learn how to make it before I go home.

Everyone comes home around 3pm for lunch together, so we ate lunch, and it was so fun! It´s a mix of english, french and spanish at the table, mostly french, and spanish, which I don´t know at all except a few words.

I've also tried strange things like watermelon jam, and torrone, and beer mixed with bubbly water.

I´m heading even more west today!
